The first general manager, Judith
Adank, at the time barely 25 years old, had just as less an
idea of the restaurant industry as the three founders of the
establishment. Nevertheless, the Quick Bar situated on the ground
floor was almost by night transformed into the second home not
only of progressive young inhabitants of Berne but also of other
gurus i.e. the Federal Council Rudolf Gnägi. On the first
floor, Luigi Monaco, a true signore from Neaples, prepared the
first genuine Toscanese titbits for the Bernese trendies. Soon
Lorenzini was known far beyond Berne's borders as the famous
and notorious place-to-be for artists, Federal Coucils, sportsmen
and intellectuals.
In 1990, the Ristorante, by that time transformed into the place
of pilgrimage of the progressives, as well as the Quick Bar
had to move on the tough order of the reactionary landlord.
The establishment founds its new home at Theaterplatz in the
former shop of interior designer Rudolf Schweizer. In 1996,
Ristorante Piazza Lorenzini AG took possession of Du Théâtre,
the famous food temple of Friedrich Dürrenmatt and Ernesto
Schlegel situated next door. Nowadays there is not much left
of this former traditional food temple. With the help of the
enthusiastic general manager Remo Neuhaus and his great team
the "Düdü" has in the meantime become Berne's
most attractive (and probably biggest) coffee and cocktail lounge,
and a popular scene for lively parties and cosy rendezvous.
Moreover thanks to him the Lorenzini could be expanded and embellished
and now offers stylish salotti for business lunches or banquets,
a picturesque patio and a pavement café. Lorenzini is
alive - more than ever before!
